Homemade noisemaking devices

The Coffee Can of Doom

Doomsday Sound Device (makes ticking & beeping noises), circuit-bent and housed in a plastic coffee container.

APC box v2.5, aka Mimsy Modular

A modified Atari Punk Console with a CV input built inside a nifty-shaped cardboard box. Also has a 555 chip inside wired up as a second sound source or LFO. There is a build journal of sorts with sounds from this device on my blog. Click on the image for a video. Click here for a schematic.

Phoenix Modular

This device gets its name from the fact that some of its components came from my dead ESQ-1, and many others were obtained by trading parts from the same synth. The chassis is an aluminum Eurorack-style frame, with a temporary cardboard "faceplate". Once I've settled on a final configuration, I plan to make a better faceplate for it. There is an ongoing build journal with sounds from this device on my blog. Click on the image to see a video.

Modutronic Messmaker

A lo-tech, two-chip AM/FM synth with audio input for the AM section. Powered via 9V battery, and housed in a plastic VHS tape case. See my blog for more info, or click on the image above to see a video. Click here for a schematic.

feedback pedal

Just a simple send/return loop pedal with a passive tone control in the return path.

the Dirty Cow- lo-fi amp with distortion

Small half-watt amp built in a bovine-themed tin. More info and sounds on my blog

various contact mic-based stuff

Including a cylindrical tin with semi-permanently mounted mic, metal plate with temporarily-mounted mic (good for percussion, scraping, or for taping an electric shaver to for sustained buzzy noise), and an unmounted, rubber-coated mic.
