This section contains recording notes from tracks I've done over the years. Track titles will contain either direct links to an mp3 or a link to the release they appear on, if either is available. I will attempt to remember as much info as I can about equipment & software used, but sometimes things may (read: will) get left out, as once I started using mostly VST stuff, it gets a little fuzzy sometimes. Stuff added since the list was made should have more detailed info. Refer to the "studio" page, as I still use most of the software I always have since going to mostly VST (I just keep adding to it as time goes on). This is a work in progress, but basically newer stuff should be towards the top of the list. Some stuff has been left out if I couldn't remember anything noteworthy about it.
There are a few things missing from the list (mostly remixes and collabs). I may get around to adding them at a later date.

M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, Odo DR-Fusion 2, Fuzzpilz Oatmeal, Synth 1, Tiny God Heartburn, ConcreteFX Feed, Wusikstation, sg-corruptor, RSMet FuncShaper, Kurzweil K2000S
The weird, almost vocalish portamento sound in this one is Heartburn through a vowel filter in Atlantis.
3am - Archtypical (My Type Mix) - 2010 (IDM/rhythmic industrial)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, sg-corruptor, sg-tadf, Vember Audio Shortcircuit

HFNY - 2010 (experimental techno?)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, E-Phonic Drumatic, Wusikstation, ReFX QuadraSID, Odo 38911bytes

Wanderer's Theme - 2010 (soundtrack/symphonic)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, Wusikstation, East West Symphonic Orchestra Free Edition
Another track written for one of KVR Audio's monthly contests. My first true attempt at soundtrack-style orchestral music. Also the first track I finished in 2010 I believe.
Jazzyspoon - Perfect (Beauty In Imperfection Mix) - 2009 (dark electronic)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, Fuzzpilz Oatmeal, TAL Elek7ro, Vember Audio Shortcircuit, Wusikstation, sg-corruptor, Kurzweil K2000S

M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, Fuzzpilz Oatmeal, Synth 1, TAL Elek7ro, Wusikstation, Kurzweil K2000S

I believe this is the first recorded track I used the K2000S in.
Learning To Walk Again - 2009 (ambient electronica)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, ConcreteFX Kubik, Humanoid Sound Systems Scanned Synth Pro, Odo Cygnus, Fuzzpilz Oatmeal, TAL Elek7ro, Wusikstation
Sad-yet-hopeful track with more piano (via Wusikstation) than I usually use.
frostbite - 2009 (noise/dark ambient)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, Vember Audio Shortcircuit, Wusikstation, Ensoniq ESQ-1
This is a track composed for the compilation All Hallow's Eve: 2009 Still Life Edition released by Shane Sanders. This is a yearly Halloween tradition at the KVR forums, though it's the first time I've had something finished to contribute in time. I believe this is the last track to make use of the ESQ before it died. Link takes you to a page where you can download the entire comp. for free.
in the thick of it - 2009 (noise)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, Vember Audio Shortcircuit, electric shaver, sheet pan, metal bowl, screwdriver
This is a track composed for the 2009 compilation Klang! Noise Made With Metal released by Intelligent Macinery. The shaver was used in conjunction with various metal objects to make sustaining metallic giriding/buzzing noises, and stuff was scraped and banged on, etc. The resulting sounds were either imported to Shortcircuit or directly to Reaper tracks and processed in various ways to create the track. Link takes you to a page at the IM site where you can download the entire comp. for free.
intermittence III - 2009 (dark ambient)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, Ibanez SR-305B DX bass

M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, Odo DR-Fusion 2, J. Evers Atlantis, Fuzzpilz Oatmeal, Synth 1, ConctreteFX Kubik, Vember Audio Shortcircuit, Wusikstation

Some severely drop-tuned crunchy guitar in this one.
intermittence II - 2009 (dark ambient)

M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, Ibanez SR-305B DX bass
The "intermittence" series were all made from bass feedback recorded into Reaper, with some layering and fx processing.

Breaking out the guitar again for some crunchy background chords. "People suck, friend, every last one of them"

M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, Odo DR-Fusion 2, Fuzzpilz Oatmeal, J. Evers Atlantis, Synth 1, Vember Audio Shortcircuit, Wusikstation

set the hook - 2009 (techno-industrial)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, Fuzzpilz Oatmeal, J. Evers Atlantis, Synth 1, Vember Audio Shortcircuit, Wusikstation, Roland TR-66
Most of the drums in this one came from the TR-66. I had been toying around with the distortion-effect circuit bend I did on it, and ended up making this while inspired from what I was hearing.
stinger - 2009 (techno-industrial)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, Fuzzpilz Oatmeal, J. Evers Atlantis, Synth 1, Vember Audio Shortcircuit, Yamaha DS55, Zoom RhythmTrak 234
This one was inspired by something I was putting together for the live show. Most of the drums came from the RhythmTrak, which is where I originally programmed the beat used here. The drums were sampled individually and it was all redone in Reaper.
not convinced - 2009 (rhythmic industrial/drum & bass)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, Fuzzpilz Oatmeal, J. Evers Atlantis, Synth 1
Opening track from SC's 2009 release entitled antitrust. Mostly sampled and manipulated drum loops.

Curses, Foiled Again - 2008 (experimental electronica)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, BeatBurner, Fuzzpilz Oatmeal, Vember Audio Shortcircuit, Wusikstation
Opening sound is a beat put through BeatBurner, which had recently been re-released as freeware. If you listen, you can hear a field recording of birds throughout the track.
Vacate - 2008 (noise)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, Vember Audio Shortcircuit, Wusikstation, Destroyfx Scrubby
More fun with sample mangling.

M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, Odo DR-Fusion 2, Fuzzpilz Oatmeal, Synth 1, Vember Audio Shortcircuit, Wusikstation

M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, energyXT, Odo DR-Fusion 2, Fuzzpilz Oatmeal, Synth 1, Wusikstation

Title track for the 2008 FS full-length release. Was started in eXT during the recording of PPD, then ported to Reaper and finished.
The Lure Of That Which Shines - 2008 (expermental electronica)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, Buzz, Fuzzpilz Oatmeal, Synth 1, Wusikstation, Roland HS-60

Sometimes It's Better To Wonder - 2008 (electronica)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, Odo DR-Fusion 2, Fuzzpilz Oatmeal, U-He Triple Cheese, Wusikstation

One of my personal favorites.
Slice Of Life - 2008 (electronica)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, Reaper, Odo DR-Fusion 2, DMI Flute, Fuzzpilz Oatmeal, Wusikstation, Ensoniq ESQ-1
This is where I made the switch to Reaper, because I liked working with audio much better in that program than in energyXT.
In Response To Your Inquiry - 2008 (ambient/noise)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Vember Audio Shortcircuit, Wusikstation
Weird sounds and sample-mangling.
Revenge Of The Wombat - 2008 (epic electronica)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Odo DR-Fusion 2, LiveSlice, Odo Cygnus, Fuzzpilz Oatmeal, Synth 1, ConcreteFX Feed, Cable Guys Curve, Vember Audio Shortcircuit, Wusikstation
Part 3 of the Wombat saga.

I love coffee.
DFB - 2008 (electronica)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Odo DR-Fusion 2, Synth 1, ConcreteFX Feed, ReFX QuadraSID, Wusikstation
In honor of Doughnuts For Breakfast.
Don't Feed The Kevin - 2008 (electronica)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Odo DR-Fusion 2, Fuzzpilz Oatmeal, Tiny God Meridian, U-He Triple Cheese, Wusikstation, iZotope Trash, Ibanez SR-305B DX bass
Pretty good example of using Trash for a clean-ish bass tone. The title is a sort of inside joke in reference to something someone once said to the previously-mentioned on-again/off-again ex-gf about how I'd keep coming back if she kept feeding me. I thought it was funny, so I named a song after it.
Approach - 2008 (electronica)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Psychic Modulation Optik, U-He Triple Cheese, R.Taips ZR3
Fun little intro-tune.
Cybkon TLB14 - 2008 (techno-industrial)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Fuzzpilz Oatmeal, Synth 1
Unfinished collaboration with Germany's CyberLotion from 2008. Most of the drums and some of the other sounds are from samples he sent me.
N.U.T.E - Temptress (Dancing With the Princess of Darkness Mix) - 2007 (coldwave/industrial metal)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Synth 1, Vember Audio Shortcircuit
Remix for New Zealand's N.U.T.E. This remix was a deciding factor in my switching away from eXT as main sequencer, because all the chopping/micro-editing at the end made my CPU spike horribly.
distract - 2008 (techno-industrial)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Odo DR-Fusion 2, ConcreteFX Digital, Synth 1, Vember Audio Shortcircuit
.
snakebite - 2008 (noise)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Dash Signature Glitch One MB, Ensoniq ESQ-1
Most of the sounds here came from the Glitch One MB noise synth, though the ESQ makes an appearance with one of the "hidden waves" sounds.
catalyst/reagent - 2008 (rhythmic industrial/IDM)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, E-Phonic Drumatic, ConcreteFX Kubik, Wusikstation, Synth 1, Cable Guys Curve, LiveSlice, Vember Audio Shortcircuit
One of my favorite sounds in this one was made by vocoding a grindy machine noise with crowd noise... it comes later, if you listen, you might be able to recognize it by that description.
count on nothing - 2008 (rhythmic industrial/IDM)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Odo DR-Fusion 2, ConcreteFX Digital, Wusikstation, Synth 1, LiveSlice, Vember Audio Shortcircuit
.
relent less - 2008 (rhythmic industrial/dark drum & bass)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Odo DR-Fusion 2, Crystal, ConcreteFX Kubik, Wusikstation, Synth 1, LiveSlice, Vember Audio Shortcircuit, Ensoniq ESQ-1
Definitely my personal favorite from PPD.
scant - 2008 (noise/dark ambient)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Roland HS-60
This is another track featuring resurrected sounds from a much older sketch. The original track was started during my days as a Cakewalk user. Not much of the original is present here, other than the sounds themselves.
thrown - 2007 (techno-industrial)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Odo DR-Fusion 2, LiveSlice, J. Evers Atlantis, Wusikstation, Synth 1, ReFX QuadraSID, iZotope Trash, Ensoniq ESQ-1
Featuring samples discussing the relevance of chaos theory to everyday life.
under control - 2007 (rhythmic industrial)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Odo DR-Fusion 2, LiveSlice, J. Evers Atlantis, Wusikstation, Synth 1, iZotope Trash, Carlos Strat-copy guitar
Hooray for pinch harmonics.
tides - 2007 (techno-industrial)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Odo DR-Fusion 2, LiveSlice, Wusikstation, Synth 1,
This one seems to be a favorite among people who listen mostly to "normal" electronic music.
clear - 2007 (rhythmic industrial)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Odo DR-Fusion 2, J. Evers Atlantis, Synth 1, Wusikstation, Novuzeit Hands of Darkness, iZotope Trash, Ensoniq ESQ-1
I believe this was one of my first tracks to make heavy use of iZotope's Trash. For some reason, I find it pretty funny that the most expensive single plugin in my collection is a distortion effect.
gemini - 2007 (techno-industrial)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Odo DR-Fusion 2, LiveSlice, Wusikstation, Synth 1, Cable Guys Curve, Ensoniq ESQ-1
.
fall - 2007 (ambient industrial)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Odo DR-Fusion 2, Scanned Synth, J. Evers Atlantis, Synth 1, Wusikstation, Novuzeit Hands of Darkness, Ensoniq ESQ-1
First promo track from the 2008 SC release pleasure, pain, and distraction. The opening sound is Humanoid Sound Systems' Scanned Synth, from while it was still in the early beta stages.
Finding A Way - 2007 (coldwave/electro-rock/industrial)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Synth 1, Vember Audio Shortcircuit, Ibanez SR-305B DX bass
Collaboration with Jazzyspoon and 22tape.
Gigawatt - El Rey Da Muerte (Hail to the King Mix) - 2007 (progressive industrial metal?)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Synth 1, Vember Audio Shortcircuit
More audio manipulation and a sort-of synth solo from Synth 1.
Dover666 - Bendy (Breaky Mix) - 2007 (electronica/IDM)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Synth 1, Fuzzpilz Oatmeal, Vember Audio Shortcircuit
The original track was made entirely from "data-bent" sounds made by importing text and images into a wave editor as raw data. I processed those sounds further and added some stuff for this remix.
3am - Delphi Hifi (Kassotis Water Mix) - 2007 (IDM/breakcore)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, J. Evers Atlantis, Vember Audio Shortcircuit
My first remix for 3am. Original bassline was put through a sub-octaver/distortion and the Atlantis filter. Other sounds from the original were chopped up and processed, some imported into Shortcircuit for sound design purposes (the vocalish percussion-like bit).
from Noise to Water - Everyday Now (Reconditioned Mix) - 2007 (industrial rock)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Synth 1, Ensoniq ESQ-1
The first remix I did for Jason of Jazzyspoon/from Noise to Water.
Fugue State - 2007 (abstract hip-hop-influenced experimental electronica)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Buzz, Synth 1, Big Tick Ticky Clav, Shit-Talker (speech synth)
The percussive bit that trails off into the extended ending from the main tune was made in Buzz using a sort of regenerative feedback technique which involves recording chunks of audio into the wavetable, then playing them back through effects and recording that to the wavetable, and playing THAT back through the effects, and so on. The phrase "Have at it, Thomas" was something randomly generated in Shit-Talker, and is there for no real reason.
Undown - 2007 (electronica)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, ReFX QuadraSID, Fuzzpilz Oatmeal, Synth 1, xoxos Oscine Tract, Wusikstation
The opening sound is from Oscine Tract, a synth designed as a physical model of a bird's vocal apparatus. "So, what may I do to undown your down?"
Tastes Gamey - 2007 (electronica)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, ReFX QuadraSID, Synth 1, Psychic Modulation Optik, tweakbench stuff
A head-bopping ditty with lots of 8-bit style sounds.
Of Wombats and Other Small Creatures - 2007 (experimental epic electronica)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Odo DR-Fusion 2, LiveSlice, Fuzzpilz Oatmeal, Synth 1, ConcreteFX Kubik & Digital, Ugo Texture, Odo Cygnus, Wusikstation
Wombat saga, part 2. :)
strung (ligature mix) - 2007 (techno-industrial)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, SoundBlaster Live, Sonar V2, Ableton Live Lite, energyXT, Buzz, Synth 1, Roland HS-60, Ensoniq ESQ-1
Remix done a year or so later in an attempt to improve some of the things I thought could use it.
over - 2006 (noise)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Vember Audio Shortcircuit, Spectral Monkeyage, Destroyfx Scrubby, Ensoniq ESQ-1
Lots of sample-mangling via the Monkeyage and dfx's Scrubby. Plenty of other fx in there too. There are also some of the ESQ's "hidden waves" sounds being used.
collisions - 2006 (dark electronic)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Synth 1, LiveSlice, Cable Guys Curve, Vember Audio Shortcircuit, Yamaha DS55, Yamaha Electone organ
Bet you can't spot the organ. :P A sampled note from it was used as one layer of the bass in this one.
nerves - 2006 (dark electronic/IDM)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Odo DR-Fusion 2, Synth 1, LiveSlice, Dblue Glitch
Unashamed overuse of Dblue's Glitch. The glitchy drums were made from several passes of it being used on a programmed drum track, edited into what you hear.
under the skin - 2006 (dark electronic/breakbeat)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Odo DR-Fusion 2, Synth 1, LiveSlice, Cable Guys Curve, Vember Audio Shortcircuit, ReFX Slayer 2 & QuadraSID, Ensoniq ESQ-1, Yamaha DS55
I guess the drum & bass influences really start to peek out in this one.
the fine line - 2006 (dark electronic)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Odo DR-Fusion 2, Synth 1, ReFX QuadraSID, Cable Guys Curve, ConcreteFX Kubik, ReFX Slayer 2 (as effect), TubeBaby, Carlos Strat-copy guitar
First track on the Skin Contact EP of the same name. First track featuring myself on guitar. The gtr was recorded direct, double-tracked and processed with Slayer 2's fx section and TubeBaby (an amp sim).
Pluck My Twanger - 2006 (experimental electronica)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, SynthEdit, Tiny God Heartburn & Meridian, Synth 1, ReFX QuadraSID, DMI Flute, Cable Guys Curve, Dblue Glitch, LiveCut, Ibanez SR-305B DX bass, DOD Bass 30 multi-fx pedal
Yet another bassline-inspired track. Also features abuse of a physically-modeled flute and glitched-out vocal samples courtesy of LiveCut and Dblue Glitch.
Trans(form) - 2006 (noise/ambient)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, SynthEdit
See Trans(fix), below.
WTF? - 2006 (electronica)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, LiveSlice, ConcreteFX Kubik, Tiny God Heartburn & Meridian, Synth 1, Big Tick Ticky Clav, Cable Guys Curve, Ibanez SR-305B DX bass, DOD Bass 30 multi-fx pedal
This one was inspired by a bassline I came up with. This bassline would also later be used as the basis for a track done with the local band I played with for a little while (Someone Else's Problem).
Fustercluck - 2006 (electronica)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, LiveSlice, ConcreteFX Kubik, Crystal, Tiny God Heartburn & Meridian, Drumatic, Synth 1, SynthEdit, Dblue Glitch, Ibanez SR-305B DX bass, DOD Bass 30 multi-fx pedal
This one was also inspired by a bassline I came up with. The odd vocalish bit towards the end is a kinda vocalish synth line put through Dblue's Glitch.
Wombat Baiting - 2006 (electronica)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, LiveSlice, ConcreteFX Kubik, Wusikstation, Odo DR-Fusion 2, Synth 1, Cable Guys Curve
First appearance of the wonderful LiveSlice. Also the first track to use the "Wombat" reference, which is a sort of song-title code name for an on-again/off-again girlfriend I had for a while (she knew about it the whole time, in case anyone wonders).
To Tarnish The Golden Ratio - 2006 (experimental electronic)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, SynthEdit
This track uses a "tuning" based on the Fibbonacci sequence, instead of any standard note tunings. For some sounds, SynthEdit was used to make some simple sound generators that mapped Fibbonacci numbers to midi key numbers where each key put out a number as a Hertz value for an oscillator. For some other sounds, I actually used the drum map technique in a sampler to trigger samples. I got completely nerdy with it, even using Fibbonacci numbers in the fx parameter values, and using spaces of 1, 2, or 3 between notes, etc.
Trans(fix) - 2006 (noise/ambient)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, SynthEdit
One day I recorded a bunch of extended samples (several minutes in length) of myself randomly playing with audio scrubbing on a drum track (I don't actually recall what program I was using, there's several that are capable). This track, and "Trans(form)", were made from those samples (processed in various ways), and sounds made with some custom SynthEdit stuff.
Sex, Guns, and Caffeine - 2006 (electronica)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, ConcreteFX Industry, Synth 1, E-phonic Drumatic, ReFX QuadraSID, Antti Taurus, D-Dev Zap Filter
The name was inspired by an especially fun weekend and a sort of inside joke. This is one of those that turned out completely different from what I was picturing when I started, but in the end I was quite happy.
Overture - 2006 (ambient)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Wusikstation, ConcreteFX Kubik, Synth 1, Ensoniq ESQ-1
I believe this may be one of the first appearances of Wusikstation in one of my tracks. This is also the first time I actually set out with the intention of making an "intro track" for a release, and tried to make it feel like such.
over again - 2006 (noise)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Spectral Monkeyage
Processed vocal samples and a ton of effects. One of the effects used here is Spectral Monkeyage, which came to be a staple in my arsenal. Unfortuneately, it seems to have disappeared? Went untitled and unused for a couple of years, then got used on the free SC promo EP clear, and called by its current name.
reticent - 2006 (ambient industrial)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Synth 1, Tiny God Heartburn, rgc:audio sfz, ReFX Slayer 2, Odo DR-Fusion 2, Roland HS-60, Ensoniq ESQ-1, Ibanez SR-305B DX bass, DOD Bass 30 multi-fx pedal
First recorded track with me playing bass.
disrupted - 2006 (rhythmic industrial)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Synth 1, Tiny God Heartburn, rgc:audio sfz, Roland HS-60, Ensoniq ESQ-1
I think this is where SC really started to evolve into what it is today. Lots of IDM influences, with machinery samples & atmospheric synths.
Gyre and Gimble - 2006 (experimental electronica)
M-Audio Delta 1010LT, energyXT, Synth 1, Tiny God Heartburn & Meridian, rgc:audio sfz, Roland HS-60, Ensoniq ESQ-1
The first track made in eXT that ended up as an FS track. This was made shortly after getting Meridian, and was largely inspired by the gated synth line which came from that synth.
strung - 2006 (techno-industrial)
M-Audio Delat 1010LT, SoundBlaster Live, Sonar V2, Ableton Live Lite, energyXT, Buzz, Synth 1, Roland HS-60, Ensoniq ESQ-1
Marks a major turning point in my working methods. Last track to use the SoundBlaster. This one was started a couple years earlier, then ported to my new system and finished with eXT. The grainy, glitchy-sounding percussion loop was made using "wrong" settings in Ableton Live Lite as an effect.
hope springs eternal - 2006 (techno-industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Sonar V2, Buzz, Synth 1, Rebirth, Roland HS-60, Ensoniq ESQ-1
One of the first SC tracks I finished after my move to CO. This was also the last track I did completely in Sonar.
Fixate - 2006 (electronica)
SoundBlaster Live, Sonar V2, Buzz, Synth 1, Big Tick Ticky Clav, Delay Lama, Stomper, Roland HS-60, Ensoniq ESQ-1
Bringin' back Stomper for the kick in this track. Most of the nifty arp sequences are from Buzz synths. This was actually started much earlier as a track for one of KVR Audio's monthly contests, then gone back to and extended.
Goes Techno, Part 1 - 2006 (techno)
SoundBlaster Live, Sonar V2
This track was done just for fun, entirely from samples (most of which came from Computer Music cover CDs). Previously unreleased.
Switchphase (Inverse Mix) - 2006 (electronica)
SoundBlaster Live, Sonar V2, Buzz, Synth 1, Roland HS-60, Ensoniq ESQ-1
A remix I actually started before finishing the original, because I was coming up with more cool sounds than I could use.
Switchphase - 2006 (IDM?)
SoundBlaster Live, Sonar V2, Buzz, Synth 1, Roland HS-60, Ensoniq ESQ-1
The second FS track. The opening vocal samples in this track are from radio transmissions known as "shortwave number recordings", which were coded shortwave radio transmissions used by spies throughout history.
Digression - 2005 or 2006 (experimental electronica)
SoundBlaster Live, Sonar V2, Buzz, Synth 1, Rebirth, Roland HS-60, Ensoniq ESQ-1
The first track that made me decide to make a side project (Fugue State), which is also where it got its name.
Krushed Opiates - Boom's Half-Brother - 2001 (techno-industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Roland HS-60, Nord Lead
.
Krushed Opiates - Monster - 2001 (techno-industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Ensoniq ESQ-1, Roland HS-60, Nord Lead
.
Krushed Opiates - What? - 2000 (techno-industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Ensoniq ESQ-1, Nord Lead
This is an early version of the track which would become "Flintstones Chewable Morphine" on the KO album.
Krushed Opiates - KO - 2000 (techno-industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Nord Lead
An outtake of sorts from the KO album.
between - 2002 (techno-industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Sonar V1, Buzz, Synth 1, Ensoniq ESQ-1
One of my first tracks to make use of VST synths (via Buzz). Quite a few Buzz machines were used too, iirc. This would be one of the last tracks I finished before a major upheaval in my life caused a period of silence.
Impakt Devices - Drown (Sleepwiththefish Mix by Skin Receptor) - 2000 (techno-industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Ensoniq ESQ-1, Nord Lead
Impakt Devices sent me two tracks to remix, so D. and I did one as an SR remix..
Impakt Devices - Angel Waste (Ravaged Mix) - 2000 (industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Ensoniq ESQ-1
I think this is really where I developed my technique of convolving synth sounds (often a pad sound and something else, as in this track) to make new pads, which I still use on a regular basis.
Cogitate - Genesis - 2000 (rhythmic industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Ensoniq ESQ-1, Roland HS-60
The remix swaps between Rick of GNP and myself led to a collaboration, this was the first track we did together. I'm not real sure about the gear he used, so only the stuff I used is listed.
Gross National Produkt - Exposer (Striptease Dub) - 2000 (rhythmic industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Ensoniq ESQ-1
Again, mostly manipulated sounds from the original track.
The Mercy Cage - Needle Marks (Rehab Mix) - 2000 (electro-industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, MDA DX10, Ensoniq ESQ-1
Mostly manipulated sounds from the original track, though I do remember using MDA DX10 for some of the twinkly stuff in the second half or so. The osc-sync sound is also new, from the ESQ.
breathingunderwater - Brand New Hurt (Analgesic Mix by Skin Receptor) - 2000 (techno-industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Ensoniq ESQ-1, Nord Lead
Remix done by Skin Receptor for New Zealand's breathingunderwater.
learning to settle for less - 2001 (rhythmic industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Rebirth, Roland HS-60, Ensoniq ESQ-1
Lots of ESQ sounds in this one. Drums were mostly Rebirth. Some sampled guitar in there too.
stressor - 2000 (techno-industrial/EBM)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Rebirth, Roland HS-60, Ensoniq ESQ-1, Emu Drumulator, Stomper
First of my tracks to feature the ESQ-1. Stomper, Drumulator, & Rebirth for the drums, with some layered samples. This is the only recorded track I actually remember using the Drumulator on while I had it.
reset (system crash mix) - 2000 (techno-industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Rebirth, Roland HS-60
I'm still pretty happy with how this one turned out. Mostly the same sources as the original mix, though with some different sounds.
carbon (broiler) - 2000 (dark electronic/breakbeat)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Rebirth, Roland HS-60
Mostly the same sources as the original mix, with more fx processing and an added bass drone from the HS-60.
grains - 1999 (noise)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, GranuLab
Mostly layers of samples processed through GranuLab, some other effects added.
reset - 1999 (techno-industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Rebirth, Roland HS-60, Stomper
Bassline is the HS-60. Most of the drums are from Rebirth, though if I recall correctly, the main kick is Stomper.
carbon - 1999 (dark electronic)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Rebirth, Stomper, Roland HS-60
One of my first attempts at using breakbeats as a main element. Also the first track I used Rebirth in which was actually released.
transmission 50-Q - 1999 (noise)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Korg Poly-800 Mk II
Perhaps more than anything, an excuse to play with weird noises from the Korg and mess with samples. Was originally meant as a sort of intro for "carbon", which is why it ends with a beat which was also used in that track.
Krushed Opiates - American Blonde - 1999 (techno-industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Roland HS-60, Nord Lead
I believe this to be the definitive SR track. Porn samples, techy synth lines, sampled guitar, and beats. This one was also later included on the KO release.
Krushed Opiates - Ripped (Amphetamine Mix) - 1999 (techno-industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Roland HS-60, Nord Lead
This is a remix I did of a track which later ended up being released on the Krushed Opiates album Driving The Two-Dimensional Highway. The original was a collaboration between myself and D. Smith (Opiate Receptor), for the Skin Receptor project originally, but later included on the KO release.
Krushed Opiates - Go! (Mild Violence Mix) - 1999 (techno-industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Roland HS-60, Nord Lead
This is actually a remix of a remix- the first version was done in 1998, later updated for use on the KO website.
Krushed Opiates - Ripped - 1999 (techno-industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Roland HS-60, Nord Lead
This was the first version of "Ripped", which would appear on the KO album.
Krushed Opiates - Shutdown (Cessation Mix) - 1999 (techno-industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Roland HS-60, Nord Lead
Started as a remix, later included on the KO album.
floored - 1998 (techno-industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Orangator, Stomper, TS-404
This was the last track finished during what I think of as the "pre-carbon era". It was around this time that I started working closely with D. Smith on our project called Skin Receptor. There would be a lot less solo output during this time, as SR took focus.
to New York, with love - 1998 (industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio
In 1998, the New York Industrial Front ran a contest in which entrants had to compose a song using only a sample of white noise and a sampler (fx were allowed). My entry was one of the 3 winners, you can still see the contest page here.
sockdolager - 1998 (noise)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio
Pure sample-mangling.
vitriol (extended mix) - 1998 (techno-industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Orangator, Stomper, TS-404, Roland HS-60
Remix of "vitriol", this time with some sounds from the HS-60 and even more samples.
SOL - 1998 (noise)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Roland HS-60
Mostly sample-mangling, with some sfx from the HS-60.
geburah (severity) - 1998 (industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Stomper, TS-404, Little Drummer Boy, Roland HS-60
Many of the sounds in this one came from a sketch originating in 1996, before I chose the SC name and started using Cakewalk. These were loops of various length rendered in Little Drummer Boy, using various samples and sounds from Stomper. A bunch of other stuff was added and it became this track.
vitriol (caustic club mix) - 1998 (techno-industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Orangator, Stomper, TS-404
There was another freeware synth whose name I can't remember used in this one. Has some samples from some documentary about astronauts.
downcycle - 1998 (industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Roland HS-60, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Stomper, Orangator
Most of the "drums" in this track came from a beat I distorted beyond recognition and messed with as a soundfont (the SB Live's sampler format). My favorite from this period I think.
Dicking Around, Part 1 - 1998 (electronica)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Rebirth, Stomper
Just sort of toying with the ability to have more than 4 mono audio tracks. :) Although I hadn't yet decided to have a seperate side-project for this kind of thing when this was made, in retrospect, I would call it a Fugue State track. Previously unreleased.
wilt - 1997, 1998, 2006 (techno-industrial)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk SE 6, Cakewalk Pro Audio, energyXT, Stomper, TS-404, Roland HS-60
This one was started in '97, added to a bit in '98 when I got the HS-60, then re-mixed and mastered again in 2006, using the original tracks.
try - 1997 (electronica)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk SE 6, Stomper, TS-404, Orangator, Korg Poly-800 Mk II
Still one of my favorites from these early days. The recording sucks, but I feel I was getting better at expressing myself at this point. Pretty sure this was the first track I wrote after getting the Poly-800 Mk II, which was my first "real" synth. I sold my PlayStation to fund the purchase.
evokation - 1997 (dark electro?)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk SE 6, Stomper, TS-404
One of the most "electro-industrial" of my early tracks. The drums are mostly Stomper. There are at least 3 synth lines in this track which are actually the same sequence rendered from the TS-404 (a freeware precursor to the synth which is now part of FL Studio), pitched up & down and processed through the SB Live's fx.
aim - 1997 (electronica)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk SE 6, Stomper, Orangator
An early attempt with breakbeats. This is another one I still really like.
blessed - 1997 (ambient)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk SE 6, Stomper
Possibly my first attempt at musical ambient-ish stuff.
unphased - 1997 (electro-rock?)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk SE 6, Orangator, Stomper
I was (and still kinda am) very proud of the drum programming in this one.
factor 104 - 1997 (techno?)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk SE 6, Orangator, Stomper
Lots of sample-mangling in this one. On reflection, I think the opening filtered vocal sample (and perhaps the track in general) was highly influenced by Daft Punk's "Daftendirekt".
rH - 1997 (experimental electronica)
SoundBlaster Live, Cakewalk SE 6, Stomper
Fun with samples (especially the guy saying "rhythm" throughout the track) & some rather funky synth lines. This would've been shortly after getting the SB Live, before that it was an AWE 64. I don't think there are any surviving recordings from that period.
While using the SB Live/Cakewalk SE 6 combo, most of the effects were done with the Live's onboard fx. Most synth lines also came from the Live (thanks to the onboard sampler), though they were often made from one-shots generated by Stomper, Orangator, or some other freeware soft synth of the time. During this time, I was also using the "lite" version of Sound Forge, which also provided some effects.
After moving up to Cakewalk Pro Audio, more virtual effects started to come into play. Around that time was also when I moved up to the full version of Sound Forge. I still didn't have a lot of CPU power, so these were still mostly non-realtime effects.
It wasn't really until 2006 that I actually had the power to really go full-on virtual, and that's pretty much what happened. I still use a fair amount of hardware to this day, but more for fun than necessity.
You will notice very little mention of specific fx used, this is because it would tend to be a lot of the same stuff over and over. Again, refer to the studio page. If an effect was an important part of a specific sound or bears mention for some other reason in a given track, I usually say so above. I'm sure I'm forgetting some soft-synths somewhere too.
Also, it's pretty much a given that most tracks will use some sampled sounds in the drum/percussion tracks (whether they be actual drum sounds or some other sound being used/abused in that way). Some of these I record myself, some come from sample CD's, some come from the net, and some are sampled the old-fashioned way (from someone else's track). If there is no specific mention of a drum machine, then it is more than likely that all of the drum sounds in that track originated as samples.
